Please join the UBC Department of Pediatrics and Institute for Global Health at BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre on Friday June 28, 2024 from 12:00 – 1:00pm for a Pediatric Grand Rounds by Dr. Amy Lee, on “Why do babies get sick? A Systems Biology Approach to Developing Diagnostics and Therapeutics for Neonatal Sepsis”.

Dr. Lee is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology & Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University. Her research focuses on understanding the dynamic interactions between host and pathogens, using both experimental and bioinformatic approaches. Her work ranges from understanding the molecular virulence and antimicrobial resistance mechanisms in pathogens, to looking at host immune responses during development or infection such as sepsis or COVID-19.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe how BC-based research can contribute to global health challenges

  2. Neonatal immune development is highly dynamic

  3. Machine learning and big data analyses can be used to develop potential diagnostics

The Institute for Global Health acknowledges with gratitude, that we gather and operate on the unceded, traditional, and ancestral territory of the Coast Salish peoples — xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. First Nations who have nurtured and cared for the lands and waters around us for all time. We invite everyone to reflect on the traditional territories and land that they currently work and live on.
